Important changes to the Copernicus Australasia Regional Data Hub - Update #7

Dear Hub User,

The new Copernicus Australasia Regional Data Hub has been successfully released and is now operating with full capacity synchronisation directly with the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE). The old and new Hubs will run in parallel until 30 June 2025, to ensure everyone has time to fully transition to the new system. At the end of this period, we will turn off synchronisations to the old Hub. At this point, new Sentinel data will only be available from the new Hub, and the old Hub will only operate to retain access to archive products via SARA until they are migrated to the new Hub.

Access to the products on the new Hub will be via our new web portal called Discover. A command line tool and Python library compatible with the new Hub platform has been developed and is available here. As stated in previous updates, users must also update their scripts and code to the new Hub’s APIs to continue to access products as they are published. User guides and other documentation for the new portal and APIs can be found on the Resources Page of our website.

IMPORTANT: The new platform will change the folder structure where new products can be found. If you currently access Sentinel products via NCI THREDDS or directly from the filesystem, the migration will impact workflow scripts that rely on computing where new products are located. Recommended access is via the new OData APIs and/or the PyGSSearch library.

Data Storage Rationalisation

As part of our recent data storage review, the Hub’s Steering Committee have made a decision to commence the removal of archive data in order to facilitate the transition to the new Hub within our current storage capacity.

Over the next 6 months, the Hub will begin rationalising data products in the Southeast Asia region commencing with the oldest data. While this will mean the products are no longer available from either version of the Hub, users may still access this data from our Partner organisation in Western Australia, hosted at the <Pawsey Supercomputing Centre>. Access to this portal is available here.

Our commitment to the Southeast Asia region remains strong, and the Hub will continue to sync new data across this area, and store products from 2024 onwards. The Hub is also exploring options to return to a full archive for the whole region in the future.
